What if she could help you make a new friend? One she can make into whatever she wants it to be? A worm, a snowman, a doll?
This SOCK BUDDY craft will allow your child to create her own new friend while spending some great together time with you. And it can also double as a warming bag for tired muscles. (If using as a warmer, make sure to only use microwave friendly items.)
SMILING SOCK BUDDY
• 1–2 Tall White Tube Socks
• Uncooked Rice
• Rubber Bands
• Permanent Markers
• Buttons
• Felt
• Mason Jar
• 6 drops Essential Oils of choice
Place the sock inside the mason jar and fold the end around the mouth of the jar—this is optional but can be useful if little hands will be helping you, as it keeps the sock steady while filling it. Once the first sock has been filled and sectioned, you can, if desired, place a second sock over the first so that the tops are opposite each other. This can help prevent rice from spilling out if the buddy should get a tear or rip in it. If using two socks, you will need to again rubber band the body sections after putting the first sock inside the second.
To make body sections, pour uncooked rice into sock until you have the desired size section. Add one to two drops of your favorite Essential Oil to the rice in each body section. Close the section using a rubber band and repeat until you have the desired number of body sections but leaving a small portion unfilled at the top of the sock. That unfilled portion can either be folded down over the top section as a hat or can be cut in strips to make hair. If you are concerned about the rice leaking out, the top can be secured with needle and thread instead of the rubber band.
Now the real fun begins! Using a permanent marker, encourage your child to draw their new buddy’s face and some of their own designs on the body sections. You can use buttons, felt, and other items for added decoration, but you will need to secured with a needle and thread.
