Homemade Snow Craft

Ah, the magic of SNOW! For some, winter is the most magical time of the year and a fresh snowfall is a beautiful, mystical event.
But why wait? You can create snow all year long—even during the summer months!

SUMMER SNOW RECIPE
• 1 lb. Baking Soda
• Unscented Organic Shaving Cream
• 1–2 drops Essential Oils of choice
• Small Plastic Tote

Place Baking Soda in the bottom of a small plastic tote. Knead a handful of Shaving Cream into Baking Soda and watch the snow begin to form. This snow can be molded into various shapes (including snowmen!); or just have fun watching it change form in your hands and squish around.
It also doubles as a deodorizer, so if any of the Snow should get in your carpeting or on your floor, simply let it sit for a bit, then vacuum as usual.

Moon Sand

Here’s another great “make it together” craft idea for you and your children: MOON SAND!
The mixing and squishing in this project helps kids learn about different textures and can help fine tune hand-eye coordination. This craft idea will undoubtedly become one of your child’s favorites. You’ll have the satisfaction of letting them make and play with something you created together that’s both natural and safe!

HOWLING AT THE MOON SAND RECIPE
• 8 c. Flour
• 1 c. Vegetable Oil or thicker Carrier Oil
• 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients. Mix with your hands until well combined. When the sand starts to clump or cling together, you have achieved the correct consistency. If your Moon Sand is too wet, add a bit more flour. Too dry, just add a little more Oil.
You can also add Natural Food Coloring to the mixture, a few drops at a time, until you achieve the colors you desire.
Store in an air-tight container between play sessions, and always check your Sand before play sessions for any breakdown.

Think back to when you were little, and your parents introduced you to the simple fun of BLOWING BUBBLES!
Did you chase them as they floated on the breeze? Did you catch and pop them? (Did you accidentally inhale instead of exhale?)
Bubbles can be a great activity for your and your children, and you’re about to learn a natural way to create the same fun WITHOUT harsh chemicals or additives!

NO TROUBLE BUBBLE RECIPE
• 1 c. Warm Water
• 1 tsp. Sugar
• 2–3 tbsp. Castile Liquid Soap
Mix the Sugar and Warm Water until all the Sugar is dissolved. Add Castile Soap and pour into a small jar for storing.
If you do not have a bubble wand handy, consider using pipe cleaners or an old wire coat hanger to make your own.

Slime the Natural Way

SLIME seems to be all the rage with youngsters these days, and while it is a great deal of fun for kids to play with, some of the chemicals used to make it aren’t so great for little hands or tender skin!
In fact, excessive exposure to the chemical-packed version of Slime can cause skin irritation.
Not to worry! Here’s a recipe for an all-natural, chemical-free Slime that your kids will love making and playing with!

LEMON LIME ALL-NATURAL SLIME RECIPE
• 1 c. Cornstarch
• 1 package Sugar-Free Lime Gelatin
• 3 drops Lemon Essential Oil
• 3/4 c. Warm Water

Place the Cornstarch, Gelatin, and Lemon Essential Oil in a glass mixing bowl and stir well to completely combine. Slowly add the Warm Water and mix until you reach the desired consistency. It should be somewhat runny, without any clumps, but not so runny that it sticks to your hands. You can also use Sugar Free Pudding instead of Gelatin to switch things up a bit and add new scent combinations to your Slime.
Keep your Slime in an airtight plastic container between uses, remembering to choose a container that is graded okay for use with Essential Oils. Storing your Slime in the refrigerator will help it last longer, but since there are no preservatives, it is advisable to make a new batch after about a week of consistent regular Slime play.

Essential Oil Sock Buddy

Does your child have a favorite stuffed animal—one that’s seen better days? You know, that one that you would kind of like to throw away but can’t because it will turn her world upside down?

What if she could help you make a new friend? One she can make into whatever she wants it to be? A worm, a snowman, a doll?

This SOCK BUDDY craft will allow your child to create her own new friend while spending some great together time with you. And it can also double as a warming bag for tired muscles. (If using as a warmer, make sure to only use microwave friendly items.)

SMILING SOCK BUDDY
• 1–2 Tall White Tube Socks
• Uncooked Rice
• Rubber Bands
• Permanent Markers
• Buttons
• Felt
• Mason Jar
• 6 drops Essential Oils of choice

Place the sock inside the mason jar and fold the end around the mouth of the jar—this is optional but can be useful if little hands will be helping you, as it keeps the sock steady while filling it. Once the first sock has been filled and sectioned, you can, if desired, place a second sock over the first so that the tops are opposite each other. This can help prevent rice from spilling out if the buddy should get a tear or rip in it. If using two socks, you will need to again rubber band the body sections after putting the first sock inside the second.
To make body sections, pour uncooked rice into sock until you have the desired size section. Add one to two drops of your favorite Essential Oil to the rice in each body section. Close the section using a rubber band and repeat until you have the desired number of body sections but leaving a small portion unfilled at the top of the sock. That unfilled portion can either be folded down over the top section as a hat or can be cut in strips to make hair. If you are concerned about the rice leaking out, the top can be secured with needle and thread instead of the rubber band.
Now the real fun begins! Using a permanent marker, encourage your child to draw their new buddy’s face and some of their own designs on the body sections. You can use buttons, felt, and other items for added decoration, but you will need to secured with a needle and thread.

This SALT WRITING recipe is easy and a blast! With all the options for different colors and scents, we’re talking HOURS of fun for both you and your kids! You can do just one color, or try a few, and watch your little ones draw pictures and write words as the colors mix and combine to make new colors!

RECIPE
• 1 Bag of Table Salt
• Natural Food Coloring
• Essential Oils
• Plastic bags with zip closure
• Small Tray

Place 1/2 c. Salt into a plastic bag. Add in two to three drops of Food Coloring and one to two drops of your favorite Essential Oils. Close the bag and let your child squish or shake until everything is well mixed together. Pour the colored salt into the tray and allow to air dry for a couple minutes.
Now the tray is ready for your child to practice writing shapes, letters, and words in the salt. If the salt remains dry, it can be used repeatedly until you choose to make new colors. To re-scent, add one to two drops of Essential Oil and stir to combine throughout salt in tray.

DIY - Homemade Clay for Play

Picture
CLAY FOR PLAY

• 1 c. Flour
• 3 tbsp. Cream of Tartar
• 1/4 c. Salt
• 1 tbsp. Vegetable Oil
• 1 c. Distilled Water
• Natural Food Coloring
• 15–20 drops Essential Oils

Mix the above ingredients well and cook over medium heat while mixing continuously. The mixture will first begin to melt down before it starts to thicken. Before long, the mixture will start to ball up while you are stirring it. When it does this and no longer has any areas that look wet, it is ready for the next steps. Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.

Add in desired Essential Oils and Food Coloring and knead by hand until combined.

Store in Essential Oil grade plastic containers until ready to use, or between uses.

Since this is a natural recipe and does not contain any preservatives, it is advised to check your dough before each play session for any type of breakdown. You do not have to refrigerate the dough (though you can if you wish); just be sure to have it in an air-tight container. Also, this dough does not dry out as fast during play, so it can be used for a few hours at a time. You may have to refresh it between play sessions by adding a tiny amount of water and kneading again.

Why should you clean your mattress? You spend a third of your life sleeping. That means, on average, you spend 318 months of your life curled up with your mattress.
Did you know that the cleanliness of your mattress directly impacts your sleep? Your mattress influences your health beyond just comfort and support. Your mattress impacts the room’s air quality, affecting the oxygen your cells take in as they rest and recuperate.
Mattresses collect dead skin, sweat, dust mites, stains, dirt, and sometimes even little insects you may not know are there.
Having old dirt, grime, and critters impacts what you are exposed to and breathe in for 8 hours every night. These particles can cause respiratory problems, allergies, insomnia and depressed immune system. In order to stay healthy and give your body the chance to revitalize itself during sleep, you need to give it a clean place to rest.
CLEANING YOUR MATTRESS PROMOTES A BETTER NIGHT’S SLEEP, HIGHER QUALITY OF HEALTH, MATTRESS LONGEVITY, AND COST-EFFECTIVENESS.
