Besides some good prevention tips, the best part of the article was RN Rebecca Keith from Keith Family Wellness in Minong, WI said she "recommends spraying Permethrin on clothing and using a natural herbal deterrent of Eucalyptus Spray with Lemon Oil; she uses it on her grandchildren."
I was very happy to learn of this other alternative. Keith is from the Upper Midwest, which has one of the highest concentrations of Lyme disease.
I have to share my own experience... I was talking a walk with my daughter and her dog, Karma, down a street by their house. It was not a terribly wooded area, and we were just walking down the sidewalk to the bridge to see the Musky's spawning. After we got back, we noticed a tick on Karma's head. I quickly looked up what to do, and found that putting Lavender on it would make it come out easily. Sure enough. We placed some Lavender Essential Oil on some paper towel and just lightly wiped. We did catch it quickly, but within about 15-20 seconds, the tick was out. Yeah!
